White marble
White marble is the classic. It's at home in baths, on fireplaces, on feature walls and in kitchens that welcome a little wear.
Soft stone, and that's the point.
Marble etches. Lemon, vinegar and wine leave dull marks on a polished top, and over time those marks become the patina people love in old kitchens.
If you'd rather not see them, pick a honed finish. It hides etching better than polish does. When a stone comes both ways, each finish has its own listing.
You may also see dolomite here. It's a close cousin of marble that runs a little harder, and it looks and works like white marble.
