Aracruz RE

Silica Safety Notice

Stone materials from Aracruz RE are safe to transport, handle, and live with. The risk appears when stone gets cut, and it falls on the people doing the cutting.

Cutting, grinding, drilling, polishing, or fabricating stone can release respirable crystalline silica (RCS) dust. Breathing that dust over time can cause serious disease, including silicosis, lung cancer, and other respiratory conditions. The people at risk are fabricators, installers, and workers who process stone, not homeowners.

Required safety controls

Fabrication belongs in trained hands, working with controls like these:

  • Wet cutting and water suppression systems
  • Dust extraction and ventilation systems
  • Respiratory protection rated N95 or higher
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

The regulation

Fabricators and contractors must comply with OSHA rules on respirable crystalline silica exposure, including OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1926.1153.

Aracruz RE distributes stone. We don’t fabricate or install it. Fabricators and installers are responsible for following all applicable workplace safety regulations and dust control procedures.
